Karashima Midori - Natsuiro Monogatari (夏色物語)

It's another one of Karahisma Midori's (辛島美登里) song which is not amongst the most popular.  It's also one of the earlier ones in her singing career.  It's released in 1991.  I love its melody, although I find the lyrics a bit abstract.  I am not Japanese, so I don't know what they think when they read the lyrics.  But I can talk about my feeling towards this song.

夏色 ("summer colors") evokes "passion", "prosperity", and "blue sky and ocean" in my mind.  Since the story took place in summer, I think it represents a passionate love story.  However, autumn, which is usually associated with looniness and gloominess, follows summer.  When the female character said she wanted the season to stop, it gave me the feeling that she's afraid of the inevitable departure, like the changing of the season.

When I read the words 裸足のままの恋心 ("loving heart which remains bare footed"), the words 裸足 ("bare footed") evokes adjectives such as "innocent" and "unreserved".  So, it's that kind of love that I am thinking when I'm listening to the song.

All in all, this song gives me a poignant feeling that "all love will eventually be followed by departure."

A Tale of Summer Colors

Composer, Lyrics: Karashima Midori

The tale of summer colors
Before the ebbing tide takes away
My loving heart which remains bare footed
I wish I would have set out running

Moonlight gently swimming in your suntanned back
I'm not being able to sleep
Not because of the roar of the ocean
But it's due to the fault of your soundly leaking breath

Putting it in words would seem to ruin something
And so I am holding you as tight as possible
Love is like sand slipping through between the gaps of the fingers, isn't it?

The tale of summer colors is written in the ink of the sea
Necklace of the roaring ocean
Already, wavelets are singing no more

Whatever I am, please scold at me
Guide me so I will not miss
Whatever the fault, please forgive me
Protect me as if I was being wrapped

If I leave your arms
And remains like that
It looks like we'll never be able to meet again
Thus, I am begging the passing season
Please stop going
Please stop going
Where else could my love go in complete solitude?

The tale of summer colors
Before the ebbing tide takes away
My loving heart which remains bare footed
I wish I would have set out running

My loving heart which remains bare footed
