I'm pretty sure that I've listened to this song when I was small.  It could have been at my Uncle's home, or from the radio, or from some Hong Kong singer's cover of the original song.  If it's the latter, I couldn't recall anything.  Anyway, my "first time" I listened to this song was Nakamori Akina's (中森明菜) cover version in her album Utahime (歌姫).  I just love its melody.  At the beginning, I thought Akina's version is better than Iwasaki's.  But now I think each of them is beautiful in her own way.

Autumn Nostalgia

Composer: Miki Takashi
Lyrics: Aku Yu

Season passed silently even without any footsteps
I sent it off alone
Drops and drops of tears overflowing
I was eighteen

Someone reticent but carried a warm heart
Holding tightly onto his goodbye words
And very soon I became nineteen

My heart shakes
Autumn is coming
I am easily moved to tears
Youth is a fragile thing
You got hurt even though you have loved
Youth is a forgettable thing
You realize it only after it's gone

The person to whom
I gave my first kiss on an impulse
After saying sorry I never heard from him again

The day before graduation
The person who came by to show his heart
Shrugging his shoulder after he saw my troubled expression

Whomever
It's past and gone and there's no return
Youth is a fragile thing
You got hurt even though you have loved
Youth is a forgettable thing
You realize it only after it's gone

While I'm alone having tea
I am writing post cards and things alike
"Everybody, how are you?
Let us meet again some day"

Innocent promises in spring
Mischiefs in brilliant summer
Rolling laughters
This and that
Feeling nostalgia on a day in autumn

  1. Thank you for translating the song. I have been a faithful fan if Iwasaki since my school days back in early 80s.

    1. You're welcomed. I don't consider myself a fan of Iwasaki, but I was very much attracted by her talent.
