When I first listened to Matsuura Aya (松浦亜弥), it was a duet with Inagaki Junichi (稲垣潤一), a cover song of Matsuda Seiko (松田聖子) called "Anata ni Aitakute ~Missing You~" (あなたに逢いたくて〜Missing You〜, Longing to meet you), appearing inside Inagaki's album "Otoko to Onna - Two Hearts Two Voices" (男と女ーTwo Hearts Two Voices, Male and Female - Two Hearts Two Voices). I think she got a very good voice, and she knew how to sing. It was only recently that I started listening to her songs over YouTube. Started as an idol, I think she's very talented. Without such talent, it would be impossible to perform songs such as "Egao" (笑顔, Smiling Face) live (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2rl90rALsk).
On blogs and in YouTube comments, people would say such things as "idols appearing after Akina's (中森明菜) era don't know how to sing." I beg to differ. Aya, who debut in 2000 as an idol, is at least as talented as those idols who came out during Akina and Seiko's time in the early 80s. There will always be poor singers in each era (although they could be extremely popular). Taken as a whole, I am not sure whether talent among idols has been degrading over time, since I don't have enough knowledge about the Japanese music scene.
This time, I want to introduce Matsuura Aya's "Omoi Afurete" (想いあふれて) (English: Feelings Overflowing).

Feelings Overflowing

Even a solitary weekend
Somehow I seem to have gotten used to
There were also days spent without thinking of you
But while all I could do was waiting
Every day became brutally long
Capping my feelings while waiting for dawn's break
Please promise me not to forget
That we once loved so much
That there were days when you sobbingly proclaimed
"I want to carefully guard you"
Because we loved so much
Because it was so kind and tender
I don't desire such things as memories
I want to go back in time
Listening to the wall clock ticking
Decorating the room with flowers
Leaving my body to tranquility; shutting my eyelids
The days when I could only wait
What they gave me
Were both loneliness, and on its opposite side, a little pride
Hereafter I'll probably remember
That we once loved so much
I cannot simply put it aside
Warmth still remains
That how much I loved you
That how much I was thinking about you
Now that I know it's impossible to convey them to you
Hereafter I'll probably remember
That we once loved so much
As for those that I have carefully put aside
Warmth still remains
That how much I loved you
That how much I was thinking about you
Now that I know it's impossible to convey them to you
Feelings without any fade are overflowing upon
Aya Matsuura's cover of this song is absolutely beautiful!
