I first heard this song through Nakamori Akina’s (中森明菜) cover version in her “Folk Song” album.  In fact, after listening to the original version on YouTube, I like Akina’s version more.  In summer 2009, Akina had a concert in Yokohama, where she sang the songs from her “Folk Song” and “Folk Song2” albums.  “Koi” (恋) was her second last song in that concert.  You can view it here (http://youtu.be/ry9m4-8bES8).  Because of the content of this song, I read a number of discussions regarding her “smile” towards the end of the song.  People were wondering if she’s bidding last goodbye to her relationship with Kondo Masahiko Anyway, I love both he melody and the lyrics.  I’m sharing my English translation with you.

Love

Composer, Lyrics: Matsuyama Chiharu

Looks like I’m already tired of love
It doesn’t mean I’ve come to hate it
Turning on the room’s light, leaving it on
Dropping my keys onto the shoe rack like I always do

I’m sure you’ll laugh it off and think it’s just like before
But this time it looks like I’m serious
Your face hasn’t even flickered inside my mind

Men always make women wait
Women always get tired of waiting

Even so, "it’s fine,” I comforted myself
Even so, love is love

Perhaps you are drinking at the bar you frequent
Drunk and raving around
I’ve left a short letter with the laundry on the desk

Next time if I happened to be reborn
I’d surely try to be born a woman again
But I wouldn't commit the same blunder twice
Stumbling on men like you

Men always make women wait
Women always get tired of waiting

Even so, "it’s fine,” I comforted myself
Even so, love is love

Men always make women wait
Women always get tired of waiting

Even so, "it’s fine,” I comforted myself
Even so, love is love

Even so, love is love
